"Why shouldn't I marry Cersei openly and share her bed every night? The dragons always married their sisters. Septons, lords, and smallfolk had turned a blind eye to the Targaryens for hundreds of years, let them do the same for House Lannister. It would play havoc with Joffrey's claim to the crown, to be sure, but in the end it had been swords that had won the Iron Throne for Robert, and swords could keep Joffrey there as well, regardless of whose seed he was. We could marry him to Myrcella, once we've sent Sansa Stark back to her mother. That would show the realm that the Lannisters are above their laws, like gods and Targaryens."

-- A Storm of Swords, by George R. R. Martin

A recurring plot point in several plot bunnies I am too lazy and / or shy to write. As well as one I'm currently writing, but that's for a fandom where the wincest is canon. Beside the personal turn on, there's the Übermensch-ish bit that fascinates me -- though it stradles the line between Übermensch and a Byronic Hero / The Unfettered, two of my favourite character archetypes: the difference being that the Byronic hero has various additional traits; and that his choice is driven by sexual desire and/or stubbornness, whereas the Übermensch does it just because, to reassert his superiority. You see how much the archetypes overlap.
For some reason, both archetypes are usually male. It might be interesting to see an example where the male archetype does his thing only to be refused by his sister -- in the example I cite, Jaime/Cersei from A Song of Ice and Fire, their relationship practically ends when she ridicules and humiliates him after he proposes to her; but she is unable to comprehend. They then proceed to have sex over the corpse of their eldest son. She was always a bit of a bitch. (The order may differ, it's been a while since I read the books.) Here, however, I'd say it's mostly due to Cersei being a paranoid wreck. Personally, I'd like to see an example of the above where the sister refuses for practical / political reasons (this type of pairing almost always takes place in spheres of power, often in a time of chaos).

I'm currently reading Game of Thrones, it's interesting, and I gotta say, Jaime has gotten better while Cersei has only gotten worse and worse
