European Union CoA by firelord-zuko European Union CoA by firelord-zuko
05/26/2012: Redone from the scratch.

11/08/2011: Changed Greece's and Denmarks flags, removed that weird white square and changed the flags' blue, red and green to more eye-friendly colours. You can look at the Confederation of the Rhine now.

Based on my map [link] I present the full coat of arms of the European Union in my Code Geass universe.

Upon a shield Azure, twelve five-pointed Mullets circlewise Or, surrounded by the collar of the Legion of Honour. For a crest, upon the sovereign helmet a wreath of the colours, thereupon the European Crown, surmounted by a glory Or, breaking through a cloud proper, surrounding a field of the first bearing the letter N between twelve Mullets circlewise of the second. Supporters Eagles Or langued and armed Gules. All upon a canopy Azure semy of Mullets Or lined Ermine, surmounted by the European Crown. Motto "Concordia in varietate".

In all honesty, I could not think of a better symbol for Europe than the circle of stars.

Used stocks from Wikicommons, mostly by Katepanomegas and Sodacan.

Question: What does the "N" mean?

Napoleon. He's revered as something of a legendary founder figure  in this European Union. Additionally, it is heavily influenced by the French, based in Paris, and currently presided over by Emperor Napoleon V.

I find it too monarchist. When I saw the CoA, before reading the description, I thank it was the CoA of an uchronic European monarchy :)

Ten out of nineteen member states are monarchies, a council of monarchs is a dedicated constitutional organ, and the current head of the union (though not chief of government) is the Emperor of the French.

Wonderful work! I ahve a question, what is the meaning of the letter N in this CoA?

Heh, it's basically a Napoleonic Europe. The N's for the founder of the Continental System that ended up becoming the European Union (several wars, revolutions and diplomatic banquets later), who has had two centuries of magnificently effective propaganda working in his favour and is now revered as a political saint, the same way as, say, the Founding Fathers of the United States in OTL. It might also be taken as a reference to the current president of the Central Hemicycle, the council of the Union's heads of state / government, Napoléon V.

Beautiful arms! (A bit sad they didn't keep Napoleon's Crown, but oh well...) I really need to start Code Geass!

Also, Near is only a few letters away from Nero... >:D

Well, Napoleon's crown is already being used by a member of the Union :XD:
While I wouldn't call it a "good" anime (it's horribly campy in a world of ham), the characters and setting is interesting. Don't think too hard about the backstory, though.

This is very good. I really like the shape - the construction out of an old-style officer's tent, whilst still maintaining a hint at that shield like shape (other than the actual shield, of course =P).
Very nice.

Yes. Napoleon won big time, subduing Britain and placing Joseph Bonaparte on its throne in 1806. The royal family fled to the colonies (Washington's Rebellion failed ITTL) and continued their war there, eventually uniting the Americas under the rule of the "Holy Britannian Empire" whilst the French bloc and then the rest of Europe and European Africa united after the War of the Five Emperors (Britannia, France, Austria, Russia, China).

Russia and Austria joined the EU. Russia left later for the newly formed, much looser United Federation of Nations (UFN), but the Austrian Emperor continues to play an active role in European politics. The Empire of China pulled a Meiji shortly before that war and now continued by gradually uniting much of East and South Asia, retaining nominal monarchy whilst paying lip-service to a form of socialism. The Britannians continued to conquer, for a short time being the world's only superpower due to this world's analogue to nuclear weapons, but then fell when its Emperor was assassinated and his successor decided to destroy those weapons and give up most land beside the Americas.
Well, it's more than a bit ASB, but considering it's based on an anime, it works, I guess.

Code Geass. It's been described as "Death Note with giant mechas", and it is as trashy as it sounds. Has a bunch of nice characters and an enthralling political setting, though.

Have to edit that -- it's been tremendously well-received and apparently has a wide fanrange due to not really fitting into a single genre. Apprently it also offers some interesting questions and "represents the malaise of a generation" (cf. Wikipedia :XD:)

Hmmm... Somehow, I don't remember the last one... but this one, definitely Frenchy! (but in the end I guess that's the whole idea :D)

(small tip: enhance the contrast on those eagles, they would stand out more :D)

Thanks. Old one was this: [link]
Don't find it particularly Frenchy, though.

Nope. The whole point of having the eagles in Or is to make them blend in with the background and focus on the shield, helm and crest.
What do you think about the crown and crest, by the way?

It is... I mean: the crown design, the Azure and Or, the Collar of the Legion D'Honor, The N? :P

The crown i like very much, the Crest, although it almost is an American trademark, you have adapted it beautifully. :D I miss the banner from the old Achievement.
