Description

Here's hoping the footnotes are working properly.
Dragon Age II fanfic. Hawkecest. Long.

A spectre is haunting Thedas -- the spectre of mage freedom. The eyes of the world are on the city of Kirkwall and the blog of the mysterious Anders mage. Enchanter Bethany Hawke doesn't read his blog and would prefer to stay out of politics, but as she and Ser Cullen investigate a series of gruesome ritual murders, and as her sister presses her to elope to Tevinter with her, she may not have a choice ... [Long. Now with footnotes and an appendix by Fr. Genitivi.]

Edit: the wonderful sumenya has made two absolutely charming fanarts of this fic. Go give them a look, they're very much worth it.
Get-together [Modern AU] Won't you hold me
The latter is now the story's thumbnail, many thanks for that.

I really like it. It's a fascinating take on modernizing DA2, though I was a little sad Orsino didn't show up at the end. I've always liked murder mysteries and this was pretty good. I wouldn't mind if it had been over 100K words.
You got the characters' 'voices' good, I was able to hear them quite well. I loved how you made Marian the war vet with psychological problems, resulting in over-drinking and violent outbursts. Not all heroes are amazing perfect people, they're just people who have been put in extraordinary positions and had the ability to overcome them, and who doesn't feel that in some way? Some are just able to hide it better.

The notes I took while reading it:

1. It is a basic law of the multiverse that well-established oppressive paramilitary forces tend to have fetching uniforms.

That's rather true... and sad. Means I can't just run around in those uniforms without getting flak for it, unless I'm doing a reenactment.

2. I just lost 98 per cent of my readers. (If you scrolled all the way down here, you can at least make the effort to call me a wicked sinner in your review or something like that.)
I have read so much worse than anything you wrote here, so if you lost that many readers, they must not know the dark side of the internet.

3. And Anders is the guy playing the beautiful elf healer in the bikini who’s the reason for that.
Of course. Why am I not surprised. Makes for an interesting mental image I'm not sure I should draw....

4. 18 Long form. Someone was bound to ask stupid questions.
*sigh* but yes, otherwise people will start an internet war that will last for years and cries of "Photoshopped!" will erupt...

5. Pg 39: Bethany had always known Bethany was a liar and a trickster?
